Nathan J. Smith

Nathan is a Patent Attorney, registered to practice in Ohio and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Nathan joined Eschweiler & Potashnik in 2020, was registered with the USPTO as a Patent Agent in 2022, and received his JD from the University of Akron in 2024. Nathan has technical expertise across electrical and computer engineering, as well as other disciplines, with a focus on electromagnetism. He earned his Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science, and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University.

Previously, Nathan worked at Sandia National Laboratories as an engineering and scientific researcher and manager. Over his career, he focused heavily on research and design (R&D) of antennas, specifically reconfigurable antennas and matching networks, phased arrays, electrically small antennas, non-traditional antennas, and aperture antennas from HF through Ka bands. Nathan also has experience in wave propagation, RF measurement and characterization, RF IC’s, radar systems, rapid hardware development, embedded hardware & software design, mechanical packaging, tagging tracking and locating, and nuclear engineering. Nathan also managed a group responsible for printed circuit board design for a wide array of U.S. defense applications.
